Light Requirements: Prefers full sun to part shade. The Sago Palm thrives in bright light conditions, but it can tolerate lower light levels, especially when grown indoors.
Watering: Water regularly, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. The Sago Palm is drought-tolerant once established but benefits from consistent moisture during the growing season. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
Soil: Prefers well-draining soil. Use a sandy or loamy soil mix with good drainage. Adding perlite or sand can improve soil drainage.
Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring and summer to promote healthy growth. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.
Pruning: Prune to remove dead or damaged fronds. Be careful when handling, as the fronds can be sharp. Pruning can be done at any time of the year.
Temperature and Humidity: Prefers warm temperatures and moderate humidity. Ideal temperature range is 65-75°F (18-24°C). Protect from frost and temperatures below 20°F (-6°C).
